Jai Hind College was established in 1948 by a small band of dedicated teachers of the D.J Sind College Karachi. A tragic world event, the partition of India, had driven them from their homes, their friends, and their workplace. Weaker men would have succumbed to such adversities, but these were men of stronger mettle.
They came to Bombay and persevered in the face of all odds to achieve their goal of setting up an educational institution to which they could contribute their expertise, their knowledge, and their skills. This was also their way of paying back, in substantial measure, the debt they felt they owed to the land that had offered them refuge and security. But it served another purpose as well, for it enabled them to retrieve their own self-respect which circumstances had so badly bruised. Thus Jai Hind College was born.

Jai Hind College was not always big. It was very small indeed when it was born, in the wake of the Partition of India, in August 1947. The men who played a major role in its creation were professors of D.J. Sind College, Karachi, assisted by a few other educationists, who came together under the banner of the Sind Educationists’ Association headed by the founder Principal, Prof T. M. Advani.

A Candidate for being eligible for admission to the Degree Course in Management Studies shall have passed XII Std. Examination of the Maharashtra Board of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent and secured not less than 50% marks in aggregate at the first attempt.

Library
The history of Jai Hind College library dates back to 1948 with the inception of Jai Hind College. The library was named in 1969 as “T.M. Advani Memorial library” in the loving memory of late Principal T.M. Advani.
The library has a rich collection of nearly 52100 and subscribes to about 19 dailies and 30 journals and 45 periodicals 57 complimentary magazines. The library has a comprehensive reference collection containing encyclopedias, handbooks, dictionaries, atlas, etc.

The library has a wide range of novels in different languages and other light reading material catering to diverse interests. The library collection includes languages like English, Marathi, Hindi, Sindhi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, and French.
Dewey’s decimal classification system is followed to classify books in the library. The library updates the editions of DDC as and when required, as new subjects are introduced. Currently, the library is using the 23rd edition of DDC.

The Reading Room is associated with the Library. Digital Ink, an intercollegiate competition, is held to provide a platform to the students to share their writing skills in form of poems, book reviews, and short stories. The main feature of this event is that the competition is digital in nature. The Reading Room conducts Special Counseling sessions, held periodically for Library Attendants for their overall development professional and personal, to make them confident to face the library user queries.

Online Public Access Library Catalog
Web OPAC provides the library collection information to its members. Members will get their personal User ids and passwords from the Reference Desk.
Through personal user ids, members will be able to do reservations of the required book showing issued status and can also send online requests of the book which is not available in the library.
